Review - Chetan Bhagat's - 2 States -Story of my marriage.....

Just today (14th dec 09) morning I finished reading Chetan Bhagat's - 2 States -Story of my marriage.....

The author packed all the ingredients of being IIT & IIMA passed outs @ the beginning. With proper and simple usage of the words suitable for common/vocational readers, an effective style followed by the best sellers. Later comes the important part, the Romance between the main characters. It just happens as in the movies & in a few real life scenarios too. According to me, the romance part was short. I think he wanted to focus on mutual family convincing part much more.

The Author has slammed the flaws of totally two different cultures. First, as punjabi boy he slams all the lavishing, self boasting of wealth and family gossips and the biased idea of them about south Indians. Then the family gathering drink & dance filled with fun comes as a backup.
I feel he slammed more on Tamilians (or Madarasis as north indians call them) and their moral policing than punjabis. I guess may be because I was born and brought up in same place which he calls as Language chauvinistic community. Yes, the Author is right about everything he discussed about both the states. I too feel that the non-fun mania is in the blood of Tamilians as a predominant way of living their lives. His personal experience is spilled all over the book. I felt like little boring at the moments where he used fillers, unrelated to the main story. It may be entertaining for few, though.

The boy convincing girl's family was little rational but the girl doing the same at punjabi family's marriage was unbelievable though it is possible. However, the story ends with a dramatic twist which we can expect so easily with this father character & the ashram visit. Author left dots for us to connect later which is obvious for a regular reader.
